I have seen the damage done by them. It might stop chips and scratches but all the dirt that gets trapped under it turns to sand paper. every place it touches the paint, it removes the paint. Rain washes out the big chunks but leaves behind 600grit. I'd rather fix chips than repaint the whole front end.
