Also when you engage the parking pawl like that it makes it hard to take out of Park when you're ready to go. That's the reason I use the parking brake all the time. I am not saying it will damage the transmission by just shifting it into Park because it was designed to hold the weight of the car but that binding when you take it out of Park can't be good for it either. But that's just me.
