You're thinking "header wrap". A tight fitting, flame retardant, heat absorbing woven fabric that can actually destory heated exhaust tubing due to a lack of expansion.

I think this thread is in reference to a loose "insulated pipe wrap". The intent being to stock engine temps from heating up the CAI pipes and ambient intake air.
