I noticed that the old filter did not have the raised plastic ends like the purolator. the old filter has no end caps. Which one is correct? Is there right and wrong? I put it in the car and all seems fine. They have a picture of it on the purolator website. I would post it, but i don't know how people feel about posting links in this forum.

Thanks,

Well, you do have the right part number. It just seems to be a different design. I'm just not sure what the quality of the Purolator is to other brands. I recently performed an oil change on my XF and put in a K&N and it seemed very sturdy compared to other brands.
