The second biggest limtation, is as +fireamx said: money. Money makes all car problems go away, it's just a matter of how much.
If you want awesome power in a compact engine and have lots of money you should throw a SL55 s/c 5.5l V8 in the car and have 496hp to start with............before you change the pullies, ecu tune, etc.
