I did give some thought to that too, but the factory runs the plastic rear facia edge right up to & along this heat shield so I used the wood between the shield edge & facia edge. You can cut a piece of bench stock 1/8 inch x 12 inch long metal if you were too concerned with this area, but the shield receives a good flow of air underway. Of course if this was a heat shield around any of the CATS, I could picture a burnt stick along with a Xfire thrown in!! Enjoy
