It's the TSB oil leak from the small cover mounted on the valve cover. Mine didn't look as bad as yours, but I cleaned it up and need to take it in. Your right if you never take your cover off you'll never see it. It's more obvious on the other side by the oil filler. The small rubber gaskets don't do a very good job.
