With all the washing of these cars reported on this forum, you would think that this would have happened to someone else.

The only way that water could get into the sensor is if the valve cap was off. Was that the case here? Water could not leak in anywhere else, or you would have an air leak, which means the tire would have to be flat before any water could get in.
