If you remove the cover on the inside of the hatch, you can get to the wires on the license plate lights. I put mine there, but it didn't solve the problem as I think I got the wrong sizes.

I would also suggest wrapping the ceramic resistors in a small clump of fiberglass insulation or something non-flammable.

You will have to remove one bolt to pull the cover off. It's located in the 'handle' section of the panel.
