WHy don't you just sell it off to a third party? Better price, possible you can double the asking prise to $16k or 18k. Put up the "For sell by owner" sign and park on the street.
I think selling to a third party will definitely get him a better price, but $16K-$18K---I'd be very surprised. New 2006 Limiteds and new Base 2007s are going for $19Ks.
