So my experience is 50-50.
One owner of a red 2004 (with 5000 miles, currently for sale) stops to tell me all about her car and ask for help selling it. Very nice, a real pleasure.
The other owner of a black one, I saw in his car driving for the first time a couple days ago - like a deer in the headlights when I waved to him. I think he was at a total loss. I don't think he was being rude - just didn't know who the heck was waving at him.
Meanwhile in the Jeep it's almost too much - people even waving from across the interstate going 70+MPH and after a while it get's to be something like work... Different kinds of people I think. The Jags were the same way - every Jag owner (well the XKE anyway...) would wave, or even chase you down and stop to tell war stories...
These days people are a bit scared of strangers. Sad really... Get a Jeep - you'll get waved at more than you can stand!

I think some guy in a 06-07 sl500 waved to me. I didnt know what he was waving at though until he passed me. maybe he mistook my car for another of his, I know I do it all the time. When they are far away, the sl's look like our cars.
