In theory it reduces electrical interference and thus helps the spark live to its full potential. The dyno tests done show gains of 3-5 HP, which could be more attributed to changes in the air then grounding the car.
However, if you are running a high end stereo system or some other electric hungry device, grounding the car will help with keeping a steady voltage. We are dropping in a race battery in the back and did this mod as insurance.
