Default Re: New England Car Taxes

In Massachusetts we have an excise tax on cars. The money goes to the town where you claim to reside. The tax is reduced substantially by the model year of your car. They value the cars much lower than they are actually worth on the retail market. It use to be $25 per $1000 of assessed value. A 2005 model would be assessed at approximately 60% of it's value. They don't take into consideration the value of a classic car. They just do depreciation from original retail pricing. Once a vehicle is five years old you are basically paying a minimum tax. Maybe one of my fellow Massachusetts residents can be more specific on the percentages and actual assessed fees.
