Very good points Chuck. The only reason I did not turn the rotors on my car was because of the low mileage on them at the time I replaced the pads. I spoke with several people much more knowledgeable about these things than I, and every one of them agreed that unless there was something noticeable on the rotor surface there was probably no need to turn them with less than 5,000 miles of use. I did apply an anti-squeal to the back of the pads as well.
Otherwise, I have never replaced pads without also turning or replacing the rotors.
