More likely that AMG and Dailmer Benz KNEW that the vehicle would have a Chrysler badge and didn't want what is a Mercedes Benz signature line to be showing up in a 'Chrysler' product.

I suspect the engines were still built the same way... one tech, one engine. They just left off the signature plates.
