are you talking about the valve cap cover thing that screws on the valve that you put air into your tires? if so-- they are made out of aluminum. while they may look good, they can get stuck to the valve( aluminum on aluminum) and can be really hard to get off. I think the guy at the dealership called it oxidizing. not positive. so i replaced mine with rubber.
Before I saw MMZ's post and ordered the SpinCaps, I went Wally World and bought a set of chrome-plated brass Campbell-Hausfeld caps. The ones I got came with 4 little sleeves to slip over a regular rubber stem and they went on the boy's TownCar. $3.88 and after applying a little anti-sieze, no problems.
TPMS doesn't seem to know the difference.
