I know the roads are not great, but there not that bad. Once your over the GWB everything is fine. It's only a couple of miles where its rough. Besides, if you come out early, there won't be any traffic. It is a Sunday morning? You could go back via the southern route to 440 and Staten Island. It would only add about 45 minutes to the drive.
