My wife has has always allowed one toy car. After several years of owing a beloved VW Camper with the constant repairs I figured it was costing me $300 a night to camp. When family complained about camping last trip I figured it was time for a change.
After seeing a Crossfire Coupe at local lot the search began. I decided on a either a Crossfire Roadster or SRT which ever I could find in best condition. I knew I could have both SRT and Roadster but that was getting out of my price range and there is something about that line on the roof with the coupe. When I figured out the line is even on the inside it was just too cool. At a subliminal level I must have favored the SRT as I kept coming back to this car over standard Roadster (not that anything is wrong with a base Roadster).
Early July I found a SRT on E-Bay that was close enough to see in person that only had 1500 miles. The owner was a 75 year old lady who really enjoyed showing the car to the grand kids. The minute I sat in the seat and started the engine I new I would make an offer. She accepted my $21K offer that was $3,500 lower than asking price. I think this is close to the going rate for a car that is worth so much more. She paid $37K a few years earlier but did not seem to have any regrets. I think I had the edge over competition because I was there in person.
We'll I'm still in shock on the performance of this car. The professional reviews don't seem to like the stiff suspension but that's a major contributor to the fun factor in my view. You just know you're in something special. I have a bumper sticker on my VW Camper that says "0 to 60 in 5 minutes" so this is a whole new world opening up with the SRT. My first sports car a 1982 Lancia Zagato I believe had 120 HP and I though it was a fast car (still a lot of fun).
Looking forward to reading through what appears to be a great forumn full of information and a good group of people.
