It was actually an HHR that I rented where I first experienced the spastic headlights. Driving in slow and go freeway traffic on a cloudy day I noticed the lights kept turning on and off and at first I thought something was wrong. After a few minutes I realized they were coming on every time I went under a bridge and turned off when I emerged. I didn't even need to stop under the bridge - apparently the slight difference in ambient was right on the cusp of their "trigger". That was the first car I drove with automatic headlights and hopefully it will be the last.
What I do like about the lights on the Crossfire, however, is when I pull into the garage after dark and shut them off. When I exit the car and close the door, the headlights come back on for several seconds and very nicely supplement the lighting from the garage door opener. Now that's actually useful.
