The seats in my car work when the car is turned on. When the car is turned off, my passenger seat will work if the door is open. I have not checked the driver seat but probably also works with car off and doors open. So it sounds like your seats are not getting power through the "normal" channel when the doors are closed. Of course I am assuming you are trying to use them with the car ON and not getting results.
