The only thing that I've noticed is a slight "depression" where my "boney" elbow rests.
My suggestion would be to take a electric hair drier and warm up the area and see if that softens the material enough to work out the ripples.
I believe all you need to do is pull up the engine cover from the rear. It's only held in place by rubber grommets.
