Wow, that's quite a story. I'm glad that you and everyone else got out ok. As far as auto vs manual, I have driven both and currently have an auto. I am impressed by the auto, but I think the manual gets better responsiveness IMHO. As far as gas mileage is concerned, I get about the same gas mileage. It all depends on how heavy my foot is.
