My factory unit did that and it turned out to be the amp under the floor. I got the dealer to replace it under warrantee. It would play for hours and then just go off. Sometimes it would come back after a while, but eventually it would not. There is a thermal cut-out built in that might be coming into play but can't say without looking at it.
