From my experience, you tap once to go down one gear. You can tap twice to go down two gears. If you hold the shifter over for a moment, the transmission will shift down to the lowest possible gear without over revving. It will not bounce off rev limiter, it will automatically shift to the next highest gear when you hit redline. You don't have to worry about up shifts, it takes care of that for you as long as your right foot is flat on the floor....

The auto stick works very well!
