I had to remount my muffler bacause one of the rubber hanger rings was broken so I got 2 new ones and they were stiff as hell. Like you I found it was not easy to get the rubber rings back on to re mount the muffler. This is how to do it. With the car on the ground, get your hammer and wedge it upright between the ground and the underside of the muffler, hammer head on the floor and wooden shaft against the muffler at the rear. Wedge it in tight forcing the muffler up, bringing the hooks much closer together. Smear some soapy detergent on the rings, they will slip over those hooks just fine!
