Not sure I understand your question, the car has to be in gear when you "start out from a stop", so what do you mean by "popping back into gear"? Perhaps you are feeling a hard shift from 1st to 2nd? It happens very quickly. If this is what you mean, try setting transmission to W mode (which starts in 2nd instead of 1st), and see if it acts the same.
