Really bad idea to take it out without coverage. You could get sued and loose everything.

I keep insurance active year round ($545.00) but only go out on dry salt free days in the winter. When I can't take it out, I start it up and let the car completely warm up and drive it up and down the driveway to circulate transmission oil and give the brakes a little workout. That keeps the battery charged and prevents tire flat spots also.
