Default New Xfire owner

Two weeks ago I bought a used 04 Xfire limited 6 speed. It had 2,230 miles. Graphite with slate grey interior.Sticker $34+. Paid $24.900. Person who owned this car also bought it with a Sapphire blue Xfire with automatic for his wife. Wife and him apparently hated BOTH so traded both to Cadillac dealer for Caddy's new 2-seater. Door label says my car assembled -- built -- 5/03. Anyone know how I determine what number this car is?

Also, all was fine until week ago. Tire sensor light came on. Checked tire pressure daily. Pressure normal. Called three dealers. All clueless. No suggestions and reluctant to see the car. Talk about bad service. About the same time, car developed loud rattle. Sounds like exhaust is falling off or something equally bad. Did usual. removed all stuff from trunk like pump, jack etc. No good. Tried driving with trunk open to check trunk window lock. No luck. Climbed underneath. Checked plastic bottom panels for looseness etc. Again, no luck. Called stealer dealers. Again, all clueless. Therefore,

1. Anybody know how to determine built number?

2. Anyone experience similar horrible noise issues? If yes, how resolved.

Otherwise, this will be my first and last Chrysler product. My smarter half has a BMW 325 which is great. I also have an 02 Mercedes C230K coupe. Again, outstanding car. How did D/C screw up so much on the Xfire?????

Car is hot -- draws a crowd, stares, questions wherever I go -- more than my old Corvettes. It also handles great although the 6-spedd is notchy to be charitable.

Numerous blind spots no big deal if you can drive by the mirrors. Which I had to do with the MB 230 coupe.

Finally, my thanks to forum member J Isabella. His advice re snow tires prompted me to buy the car since I have to use it year 'round.

Bottom line? It's a keeper if I can solve the bleepin' tire pressure warning issue and the maddening rattles.

Thanks in advance to all and everyone who can help -- I have read all the postings and you all sound like great people who truly appreciate this unique automobile.

I emailed a photo to a friend in France. He described the Xfire as a Talbot Lago for the 21st Century.our French friends (?) have a hard time conceding anything to us so I take that remark as an amazing compliment.

Best wishes for a safe yet crazy holiday weekend to all! Nick Bade in Willoughby Ohio. I'm looking forward to meeting other Xfire owners since I have yet to see one on the roads here in the Cleveland, Ohio area -- it's great to be unique!
