Default Re: Car Value - Jesus How low can it Go

I used to work with a guy who said he just wouldn't spend serious money on a car .. after all, he said, all a ;car does is get you from here to there .... the less you spend on one, the more you have for other things, including savings ... which, he said, was the most important thing one could have ...

My Crossfire is the most expensive car I've ever owned ... and I suppose I could easily allow myself to feel badly about the depreciation that it has had in the three years I've had it, even though I bought it a year old for about 60% of new cost.

But, I knew going in that it would depreciate further and that eventually, the value will be VERY low ... I guess it's fair to say that what I'm spending the money on is the terrific experience of driving this car ...

I first saw a Crossfire at a show a couple of months before they first went on sale for the first time and instantly fell in love with it ... it was everything I'd ever wanted from a car but had never had ...

I could've saved the money and continued to schlepp around in a newer version of something like the Ford Probe that I'd been driving or done as a friend did and buy a Pontiac Solstice but those cars cost as much as the Crossfire I DID get and weren't half the car .... more importantly, they wouldn't have offered a small fraction of the driving satisfaction I get with my Crossfire ...

And that's the point, IMO ... satisfaction ... there's nothing quite like the satisfaction one gets from a quality tool for whatever task is at hand ... I won't bemoan the money I spent on this car because the return I'm getting on my investment is as high or higher than it's ever been on any car I've owned at any price ...
