The are not messing with you. Mine did the same thing at the track. The CPS in on the back of the engine by the transmission bell housing, drivers side. It is held in by one bolt and just slides out. You can buy it (~$80)and replace it yourself if you have an E8 socket and extensions. Remove the connector, remove the bolt, pull the CPS. Install in reverse order.
