With this kind of logic I don't know why I wasted all that money on engineering school.

I could have just come to the crossfireforum.org and learned everything I need to know.
Make no mistake, this is a very helpful resource for a number of things. But don't forget that just because somebody answers a question, shows pictures, and explains what they did, and how much they like it, doesn't mean it's valid.
In a way I guess I should be happy there are all those spring-cutters out there - if I ever meet up with one I can spank them on the first wash-board corner we go sliding into.
I always rue the debates that arise from people trying to save a buck and trying to defend faulty mods by claiming that buying an engineered solution makes the person stupid/lazy/untalented/wasteful. It doesn't wash.
I will acknowledge that if one doesn't have the money and doesn't care about an engineered solution, cutting may be the only option to get "the look". But make no mistake - you will not in the long run have a reliable, well designed solution to improving handling and performance.
