Re: New Owner & Forum Member
Merkur Xr4Ti's were sold by Mercury dealerships (major marketing error by Ford in late 80's) from 1985 thru 1989. As mentioned, Turbo 2.3 liters (mildly rated by Ford) with RWD and 4-wheel independent suspension. Way before its time. Car was much lighter than Turbo T-Bird, SVO Mustang, and Cougar XR-7 (I bought an 85 model new). Cars were sold as Sierra's in Euorpe and came with all kinds of options, including a 4x4 Cosworth 2-liter, DOHC turbo with 225-hp rating. Some folks in MCA have had their modified XR's on the dyno at Carlisle and recorded 400-hp at the rear wheels! Not bad for a 4-cylinder originally slated for the Pinto!
Anyway, I'm a 'gear head' by passion and my current interest is focused on the Crossfire. I'm especially fond of cars that are of limited production and rarely seen around town. I don't like driving something that everyone else has.
