I know what your gonna say: "get an FM transmitter", but those suck, especially in Los Angeles where nearly every station is spoken for..
So I was thinking about a FM modulator.. Basically a little box that you plug your mp3 player and antenna into, when you switch a switch it would turn off the antenna and bring in only the mp3 player audio.
That should work, right? Ive seen threads on this, but no one ever stated whether they got it working or not..
Or any other ideas? Besides the phone input.. mono sucks.
I did install an wired FM Modulator (harman/kardon Drive + Play) and reported the results here...it was poor.
Once I direct wired the Drive + Play (to a replacement head unit) the sound and iPod control of the Drive + Play were terrific.
In the end I moved the Drive + Play to my Jeep and bought the iPod interface for the head unit I bought to replace the factory unit. Again, top-quality sound and iPod control from the head unit.
The wired FM Modulator solution was no good - still got FM interference and the sound quality is reduced to the best sound possible from FM, which if you look at the specs, is significantly less quality than CD or straight iPod (frequency response, signal-to-noise).
But the Drive + Play is quite cheap now so maybe it will be good-enough for you, and for the price, not a lot of money to throw away if you don't like it.
