There are several forum members who have put together their own CAI's from the ground up. Some look fabulous (who has the twin pipe chrome job?) some are all-go no-show (wrapped with insulating tape). There's a huge variety of the DIY stuff. So your best bet is to surf the gallery and ask the person how they did it. I seem to remember someone here with a DIY job told me it cost them less than $100 for parts and that included two K&N filters!
I did mine myself for less than $200. Many people will knock it as not working but my car has been from TX to VA and back. Now i am in Kentucky and my temp never passed Normal in the hottest of the TX days and I feel gives me the extra pep to pass on the HWY. It's also feels better when people get the googly eyes when I open my hood.
