My first car ( had when I was 14) was a '39 Businessman's Ford coupe flathead 8 that roared over 100MPH but I don't remember if the Speedo went that high. At 14 I didn't press my luck with the sheriff very often.

Besides, the doors shook, the windshield lifted ( you could literay crank it open for more air) the running boards began to flap. It was a scarier ride than anything at Six Flags.

Doors were tapered in so that you couldn't open them at high speeds due to air flow. Good thing because the latches weren't any better than those on a house door.
