Cool thread. My 1963 Buick Special station wagon had a two-piece driveshaft with a "center bearing". In 1972 we drove if from upstate NY to Ft Lauderdale for spring break. On the way back, in central FL, it started thumping. My buddies flew back and I drove for 2 days at <40 mph to get it home. Then went out and bought the part for $20 and replaced it in my driveway. Had that old Buick another 6 months and drove it to 104k miles before upgrading to a '66 Skylark. Never liked 2-piece driveshafts since.
