Key point is that the warranty cannot be transferred to the 3rd or subsequent owner. Get it checked out real well by an indie mechanic who knows M-B. Overall these cars are pretty reliable unless they have been abused.
I've owned one since new and put 5k miles on the SRT6 this summer, with no problems. (Yes - the intercooler failed on the SRT6, but I expected that and it was covered under warranty). I did buy the 2007 for my son but it had 8k miles and two years of warranty left -- and I paid $16.7 instead of $13k for that extra protection. Another reason I avoid aftermarket warranty is that 1) I'd rather bank the cash and use it in case and 2) if you wreck the car, you lose the warranty.
