No the point was a car manufacturer producing an off the show room sleeper. It is a much more rare thing when a major car manufacturer does it. Like the Omni or the Regal T-Type. You just don't expect they would approve, fund and engineer such a thing at the top executive level all the way to the showroom.
Modded sleeper cars are not all that special. I had one I should know. I had a 300hp Mazda MX-5. It was fun and it was a blast upsetting guys in Vett's and Porsches but it was not a "factory sleeper" and therfore not the same.
Fine, but the point also wasn't to mention factory sleepers then poke fun at them. But it's still a Spirit. But it's still an Omni. THAT is the point of a sleeper - a car that no one expects because it has an otherwise very boring reputation.
And, as Call911 has pointed out, the bone stock PT Turbo is a factory sleeper. I've taken down Mustang GTs with mine at the drag strip.
