I started car yesterday 12-24-08 in the garage, no hesitation. backed out and saw spoiler was up. Locked at button and was flashing. Switch was inoperative. Looked at inst panel and two lights on beside seat belt, ABS and ESP. Car running fine. Belted in and drove around the block. All systems appeared to be functioning except for spoiler. Went in and stirred brain with a cuppa, then decided to check brake fluid reservoir. Put car in garage and closed door. Let my dachsy into the garage and she went crazy. Sniffed all over and zoned in on storage closet. I let her in and she routed out a rodent. Looked too big for a mouse and too small for a rat. maybe a Shrew?? That's when I saw the droppings.
I raised the hood to check the fluid and saw 2 inch pieces of wire under the reservoir. Rodent had chewed 1/2 way thru a wiring harness. Car runs beautiful, but saw today brake lights are out too.
I have 4 sources of insurance on the car. 9 months remaining on factory warranty, a supplemental insurance to 2016 or 100,000 miles. Auto comprehensive and Homeowners. 'll find out tomorrow if I have FULL coverage or FOOL coverage. I suspect at least $2,000 to replace harness. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
