Since the performance and economy figures reported are so similar for both transmissions, I suggest that you choose the one that suits the driving you do. If you sit in traffic and commute, then the auto would seem to be a better choice; otherwise I believe that the manual is the better choice. I have no idea which trans will have the higher resale value, but the auto does cost more in the first place.
