Safety is an illusion. Until recently we faced indiscrimate bombing of the civilian population and the killing of our solders in Northern Ireland from the PIRA. Staff working with animal research organisations are sent letter bombs and death threats. Gay bars have been blown up with nail bombs.
There are so many extreme groups who have different beliefs and priorities that make our world an inherently dangerous place.
The problem with the enemy not being a nation, is that it is difficult to win any battle or war. If you want to beat extreme behaviour then unfortunately you have to be as bad as them.
If I had been in charge, I would have beheaded one female prisoner, each time a hostage was murdered and then started on the others. If we want our society to become safe, then our governments have to be strong.
