Also, any recommendations for speaker brand, type, and whatnot would be appreciated. I'm also going to install 1 or 2 subs in the back, looking at 8-12 inch. My understanding is that FritzAuf? installed a box on that sloping part in the trunk. That would be perfect if I could get how he did it or where he got it.
There is one amp under the floor on the passenger side. It runs all the speakers through the front channel of the amplifier (even the subs).
I swapped out the head unit (sound and music sources were more important to me than color of face plate) and run rear speakers and sub out of the appropriate rear output channels on the new head unit. This has improved bass response, stereo imaging and sound-stage immensely. It also enabled the use of integrated iPod control, XM, HD Radio, USB, and separate control of the rear speakers and subwoofer. All this more than makes up for the unit not being silver. I used Infinity reference series speakers for the rear and the Infinity BassLink with 200 watt amp/10 inch driver. Speakers are a personal thing and everyone likes their own brand. I used Infinity because I have experience with them and know what to expect.
