Making power, setting up your suspension and putting the power to the ground are all equally important. If you skip one of those 3 things then you will never be as fast as you could be. Tuning your car and racing is all about running faster times and improving your cars performance. If you spend all your money on making power and forget about improving traction then all you will have is a dyno queen that you can brag about what times it should be running not what it actually can run.
I am not sure why this site is so sensitive over discussions like this, every other forum on the net has discussions like this every day of the week without people getting all bent out of shape, compaining to moderators and telling people to stop posting lol. There is nothing mean in this thread, hurtful or intended to be mean or hurtful. It is a simple discussion on what makes cars faster, why someone would be so sensitive to be upset over that is beyond me.
Again. I'm beginning to wonder if you've ever been to the track before.
The DRIVER can't put the power to the ground. That is in no way indicative of how fast the CAR is.
The car doesn't come from the factory with the floor pegged to the ground. The driver puts it there and spins to eternity.
I was at the track on Friday and ran a slightly modded Dodge Ram Dayton on slicks. It was the first night open this year and they "re surfaced" the track while it was closed. I literally spun through second with the traction control light blinking like mad. He blasted out of the hole on slicks. I caught traction made up probably 4 car lengths. He passed the finish line JUST before I did at probably 95mph.
I trapped 109. The run was a 13.8 at 109 with a 2.667 60ft.
He was in the 14's.
BUT WAIT! He BEAT me to the finish line? So his truck is faster?
See, I was still bringing my RPM up when the tree turned green. Since REACTION TIME doesn't factor into your time, I waited a bit.
So to sum up: The driver had a JUMP because he had a better reaction time, and was able to control his traction better than me, therefore he crossed the finish line first. *GASP* It sounds like he is a BETTER DRIVER than I am!
Winner: 14.XX @ 95
Loser: 13.8 @ 109
My question to you, mrphotoman:
Is the faster car the lower 1/4 mile time? Or who gets to the finish line first?
Because they can be two very different things.
