the same happened to my son and myself, glad you weren't hurt,, as far as the car if the insurance says totaled they want to keep it ,,, if you tell them it is a family airloom and you have to keep it. they have two ways pay you just under the totaled amount( my son's truck 99 Tocome prerunner was totaled ,,6788,00, if we took that they took the truck, i said it was a family airloom and we want it back,, they said if we took it after totaled it would be without a title and we could not reinsure it ,, so we were told to get a repair estament below the totaled amount. I knew the estermator at Toyota so we got a estsment for 5989, the insurance co sent us that and we fixed the truck and it is still insured,,, just u want to keep it and sell the parts.
