Talking Re: Stealership says S/C clutch not IC Pump???

Please allow me to get technical on your but for a minute.

What I read is that the clutch magnet is not operating. THe fixed and non moving magnetic assembly is a coil of wire(copper) wrapped around the steel armature that forms the assembly mounted on the supercharger case. The wire is fed 12volts of power to magnetize the spinning clutch disk and PULL the surface into the supercharger so that the belt power is transfered to the S/C..............like that.

THe wire is fed 12 volts a low voltage and the length of the wire is sized to draw enough power electrically to do the deed. 200,000 ohms means that the windings are not correct, there is a break in the path and that the coil (appears to be) defective. I would expect that the reisistance off of my head should be less than 50 ohms or less dwn to about maybe 8 ohms or so.

Go and find a ham operator (Look in the library or possibly at a local star-trek convention center, we dont hang our under the bridges much anymore) and buy him a piece of coax cable or something shiny and ask him to please help by taking a look with his ohmmeter at the coil. I would be willing to bet that the coil is good and there is a crappy connection somewhere. If the diagnosis is correct, high coil resistance, then finding and fixing the lead connections should do the deed for you.

If they presist with the 7000$ story then get the s/c [see internet]rebuilder to get you a new coil, they are separate and bolt on. Your experience is with a crappy service provider, the replacement not 7000$, they are looking to make some good money. BTW if you ever have anything replaced, mark the old one with fingernail paint of a mark to be sure they do the work. You can not believe how many people get ripped off, each day. NO ASK< NO GET.

Woody Peace
