Higher stall allows for more slippage in gear allowing you to bring engine rpm higher before rear wheels overpower brakes. It works by changing the stator and over run clutches. The principal behind it is that you can bring up engine rpms to a better hp/tq area in the power band for harder/faster launches. It is usually used in drag racing and sled pulling competitions
