Default Re: What Else Do You Want?

Adding to Blues comment is more about numbers. There are probably 50 of the SRT6 owners that actually have been to the track. Then 10 out of those 50 that are serious about drag racing. I being the only one who runs in the Summit NHRA ET series and bracket races every weekend have no interest in either a stall or driveshaft. Neither will make the car anymore consistent or reliable, as these cars are very hard to dial already.

The stall may, hasn't been proven yet, improve 60' times which is an advantage. It's not adding anymore power, just allowing more power to the ground at launch. Now this is assuming that 1) drag slicks are used 2) someone can drive good enough to master it on any track surface. 3) Once mastered and let's assume successful, will the axles hold up? Or create a new problem.

This is one of the reasons the supercharger is clutch driven so the power comes in gradually. Otherwise it would be like a mustang cobra that spins for 2 gears and renders useless without a straight axle and slicks.

Now why lower 60's are a disadvantage bracket racing. All hardcore bracket cars are set up with high stall, low gears for killer 60's. They come out of the hole hard and by the 1/8 or 1000' mark pretty much fender race from their on.

I'll give a real world example. I ran a 12.08 to another bracket setup race cars 12.08. Heads up. Immediately off the line he had 1 car and by the 1/8 had 2 cars, then my car wakes up and the bracket car with low gearing dies, and I catch and pass him at the finish. Just on reaction time differences.

I have won many races because the other car lets off and thinks they are easily winning. Not knowing if I had a bad light or the car lengths they pull from the start. They have no clue my car launches soft and charges like a 10 second car at the top.

If I had a higher stall, sure I would have the starting line advantage or equal advantage, but I lose my top end. The car will be in the middle of 4th gear at the stripe instead of just changing into 4th where the power is not as strong.

The best mod would be to change gearing in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to make it a true 3 speed in the 1/4, 4th and 5th would be for gas saving purposes only.

My Chevy II has a TCI 3500rpm 9" stall for street/strip fun.
