If you must drive in snow I find these rules to be worth following because if the other guy is out of control you have to be in control.
1, Snow/Ice tires, you will feel the difference.
2, Some reasonable weight in the trunk, 100# or so.
3, Traction Control ON, unless you are really stuck when you switch it off to avoid overheating the brakes.
4, Keep the revs down, avoid rapid acceleration and braking.
5, Windows clean and free of snow, if someone is going to hit you it is best to know about it.
6, Pull away in second gear.
7, The golden rule, if it is really bad, do not go out.
Good advice all from a Canadian who has surely driven in snow from time to time.
