Then factor in icing the S/C, which is like icing the S/C when on a dyno for better numbers. I race with my grill, on street tires, on a 93-octane tune, with 93-octane gas, stock y and stock manifolds. Then factor, I never ice down the S/C. I have stock plugs and wires (for now) and a stock exhaust.
The more I look at temps with my 181, the more I believe cooling mods are a necessity. Specifically to limit how high temps rise compared to stock, S/C, or 178. As SRTpowa stated, he was seeing 105-113 with an isolated system in 95-degree heat with a 178. Where I’m seeing 160-170 in 70 degree weather with no isolated system, even with one I don’t think I’m going to see 105-113 under WOT. Just last night, it was 58 degrees and under WOT I hit 145 degrees.
I’m curious to know what your average ET is and not your best. Again, not trivializing your accomplishments at all, rather piecing the puzzle together. Please correct me if I’m wrong…
Your right without the mani's and ypipe I don't think I would have broke in the 11's. They really made the most difference. The tunes were a little different. The 100 tune definately woke up the mani's and ypipe. I was surprised how different the car felt. I still feel this combo in negative DA is good for 11.7's. or better.
The 93 tune was pretty impressive though. With DA no better than 2500' I would run 12.0's all day. 11's would be possible but not with my DA. My best of 12.02 on the 93 tune was with stock mani's, and ypipe. Just tune, pulley, and intake. I bracket raced a big race around the time I just got that tune. I used a 12.01 dial because I was so close the whole day sub 12.05's.
The drag radials help a great deal balancing the consistency when the track isn't prepped that great. Or the left lane is worst than the right, and you get bumped to the left lane for 1st round. For bracket racing a must, for test n' tune and not going for a pb, not a must. In the beginning I would swear it wasn't possible to get a good launch with street tires. Now as well as I know my car and the launch, I'm pretty sure I could lay down 3 passes within .05 of each other with my stocks. With street drag radials like the nittos, I'm positive I could get into the 11's with DA of 2600' or better. I still call those street tires because the compound is not much softer than stocks.
I only ice in the summer when it's over 100 degrees, and only when bracket racing. The whole winter when hitting all my PB times, no ice was hurt during testing.
The grill is no lie, it does give an advantage. I'm sworn to it and have seen as much as a tenth decrease in times. Now that's with a NW intake, I doubt you will see the same with the SL intake. It may be worth a try though.
My point about being stock is that even with a 100 octane tune the cooling, ignition, and exhaust is more than adequate.
