You may very well find that the "imprint" of paint has not changed much over time . However, it may have left a silhoutte. Sometimes it can be buffed out; sometimes not. If it exists, it may only be visible in certain light.
If you have some other badge on the car (dealer lable?) that you could remove and check the paint change it would be to your advantage.
I removed the lettering from a '93 Alfa Romeo Spider last summer and the lettering silhouette was barely visible. After a couple of months you couldn't even tell they were ever there.
The only way you're going to find out is to remove at least one letter.
